Draft K-6 Social Studies Curriculum
Alberta Education is asking for your feedback.
Alberta Education is resuming engagement on a draft K to 6 Social Studies curriculum, gathering information about what Albertans would like students to learn.
Based on input from Albertans, the new K-6 Social Studies curriculum will be designed to be age and developmentally appropriate and include:
- enhanced Indigenous and francophone perspectives
- a focus on building students’ existing critical thinking and communication skills.
A discussion guide is also available to help you better understand the draft curriculum. Learn more about the steps in the curriculum development process here.
Albertans are being encouraged to share their thoughts in a survey. The deadline to complete the survey is October 16, 2023.
The following letter is being shared with students and families on behalf of Alberta's Minister of Education, Demetrios Nicolaides.
