WELCOME TO THE 2026 – 27 SCHOOL YEAR.
We are very excited to welcome back our previous students and to welcome our new students to STA. In preparation for the upcoming school year, we would like to take this opportunity to provide you with information about St. Thomas Aquinas school and our registration procedures.
When is my first day of school if I am in grade 1 to 8 and what will it look like?
Wednesday, September 2nd will be the first day of school for Grade 1 to 8 students.
On Tuesday, September 1, all families will receive a welcome email from their homeroom teacher. In this email, the teacher will share a map and explain where students will meet their teacher outside, in the back field.
On September 2, upon arrival, students will be directed to the field in the back of the school where they will find their meeting spot (shared with families in the email the day before). Once the teachers have completed attendance, students will be taken inside to their homerooms to begin their day.
A reminder that Wednesday, September 2 is a full day of school, and all students need to bring a lunch.
When does school start for Kindergarten students?
Families were sent emails with their staggered entry dates and times earlier this week. Please check your emails for these times and dates to ensure your child shows up on the right day and at the right time. If you have not received an email, please contact the school (780-409-2604). Staggered entry days are September 2, 4, 8 and 9.
Kindergarten students have their first full day on Friday, September 11. Yellow bus will be operating on this day. Please check your PowerSchool account for the bus information.
Important dates early in September: Monday, September 7 th – No School (Labour Day)
Thursday, September 17th – No School (Staff PD Day).
Thursday, September 24th – ‘Meet the Staff Evening’ @ 6:00 pm
Wednesday, September 30th – No School (Truth and Reconciliation Day)
Safety Around the School – How can I help keep the community safe?
Do not park in the staff parking lot or bus loading zones.
Drive slowly and watch for students at all times.
Do not park in no parking areas or block driveways of our neighbours.
Please obey the signs set up by the City of Edmonton and the Edmonton Catholic School Division.
Follow all rules of the road (no U-turns, double parking, etc.).
Follow the directives of staff that are outside supervising the road, sidewalks, and parking lots.
Please give yourself time to park and walk your child to school if you drive them. Our school is a busy community, planning to arrive early will reduce many problems and contribute to a safer environment.
How can I complete the registration process for September 2026?
In September we will be asking our families to complete portions of the registration process online. Please see below for specific details:
Completion/updating of ECSD registration forms online by September 30th – more information to come in September 2026. If you have any immediate changes, please contact the office and changes can be made.
Purchase your Yellow Pass – please purchase your September bus pass on PowerSchool during the first week of school. Bus Fees

How can I pay for School Fees, Field Trips, and other costs?
School fees will be posted on PowerSchool in September. Pay online through your PowerSchool account. If you do not have an account (new to Edmonton Catholic Schools), please contact our office @ 780-409-2604 for assistance.
What can I do as a parent to ensure I have the best communication with the school and stay informed about upcoming school events?
Email - All families are required to provide at least one email to receive school communications. The school sends out weekly updates on Fridays. Please check your email often to stay up to date. If you are not receiving emails please check your junk mail and then redirect to your inbox, so you do not miss importation information.
Website - Parents and students are encouraged to check the school website regularly. Our calendar is updated regularly so check it out for important information about upcoming events, information about our school, and much more can be found there https://stthomasaquinas.ecsd.net/.
Attendance - The school's attendance notification system will automatically phone parents when their children are not present in homeroom and any block after homeroom. It is imperative that students be punctual for homeroom. If a student misses their homeroom registration time, a phone call is automatically made to the parents. If your child will be away (ex. illness, appointment etc.), please notify the office before 9:00 am. Messages can be left at 780-409-2604 at any time (day or night).
What Policies are important to know for the upcoming school year?
Our School Code of Conduct is an important policy for students and families to understand. Our Standards of Student Dress Policy is also found on our website. Lastly, students and families should be familiar with our Electronic Device Policy. Please familiarize yourself with these policies.
When does supervision begin, and doors open?
Supervision begins at 7:46 am, outside the school. Please do not drop your child off before this time. For elementary and kindergarten students, the first bell will ring at 8:00 am and doors will be opened for students to enter. For junior high students, doors will open at the back of the school, at 7:57 am, allowing them to entry and get upstairs before the elementary students enter. In cases of inclement weather, students will be let in at 7:46 am.
