About STA School Council

School Council

The School Council is made up of:

  • a majority of parents
  • principals
  • teachers
  • secondary students
  • community representatives

School council members work together to support and enhance student learning. They provide a way for members of the community to consult with and offer advice to principals and school boards.

School Councils:

  • are a bridge between the school and community
  • focus on what is best for all students in the school
  • consider the interests of all school stakeholders
  • develop, maintain and reflect the culture of the school
  • represent the parent voice in the school community

School councils are legislated under the Education Act and are mandatory for all schools in the public education system, including charter schools.

About STA Fundraising Club

The St. Thomas Aquinas Fundraising Club (STAFC) is a nonprofit organization composed of parents or guardians of students currently enrolled at St. Thomas Aquinas School. STAFC is deeply committed to the well-being of the school's students and actively contributes to the overall success of the school community. Its primary objectives include:

  • Collaborating with the School Council, parents, students, STA school staff, the community, and the School Division to raise funds for the provision and maintenance of educational materials and enrichment programs for both the school and the community.
  • Managing and staffing a hot lunch program.

STAFC secures the necessary funds to achieve these goals through various means, including:

  • Conducting ongoing and occasional fundraisers, such as Skip-the-Depot and the Christmas Shop, specifically for students.
  • Offering monthly hot lunches to students and staff throughout the year, partnering with different local restaurants in our community.
  • Applying for government grants whenever they become available.

The effectiveness of the STA Fundraising Club largely depends on the dedication of its volunteers. We wholeheartedly encourage and welcome parents to join our monthly meetings, which coincide with the school council meetings. Additionally, you may consider volunteering to assist with our events or hot lunches throughout the year.
